Card of the Day- Ace of Wands
There are almost as many different ways to do a daily tarot meditation as there are tarot cards, tarot decks and tarot readers, but I tend to alternate between two different styles. If I’m feeling like I need inspiration, guidance, or just general insight and have no specific or easily identifiable plans or goals for the day, or especially when my day is looking like it will be all routine or boring, I’ll draw a random card and consider what it’s telling me. For example, on Friday I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with the seemingly never-ending to-do list and frustrated by other stuff, so I randomly selected the Strength card in the reversed position. Other times, I’ll consciously choose a specific card that really embodies my goals or plans for the day, which is what I’ve done today with the Ace of Wands card.
I’ve made a real effort lately to spend more time focused on things I enjoy and want to do to balance the frustration I mentioned before and above. And I have to say, it’s somewhat difficult to wrap my mind around the idea that I can spend some time on me and not focusing on the never-ending tasks. I could be doing that- but how productive will I really be when it’s not what I want and just another obligation? Probably not as productive as I would be after taking some time for myself, doing something I enjoy and feel passionate about, and returning to the obligations with a new energy and passion- which is what the Ace of Wands card is all about. Planting the seed of creativity, of energy, of manifestation- new a new beginning to a new endeavor or project.

Ace of Imps, Halloween Tarot
It’s always interesting to me to compare how even within the Rider-Waite-Smith basis for Tarot Imagery, different deck creators, authors and artists depict the same concept with similar symbolism in vastly different ways. Another reason I love choosing a card intentionally is because it gives me a chance to look at these differing concepts in more detail than I normally would from decks I have and enjoy but don’t really read with often. Today, the cards I’ve chosen today each represent a different aspect of embracing passion and creativity that I find important and show the diversity of just one card. For example, the Halloween Tarot has changed the card to the Ace of Imps and shows several cartoon-like devil figures in the background. As the Devil card in the major arcana represents indulgence, the message I’m taking from this card is to indulge a bit- but not at the problematic level often indicated by the “big” Devil Card. The Ace of Wands in the Tarot De Art Nouveau shows a woman hugging herself, which I’m taking as demonstrating embracing your inner wishes and needs for creative expression.

Ace of Wands, Housewives Tarot
Two very nontraditional decks I’m looking at today do not follow the RWS imagery at all. The War-In-Europe Tarot’s Ace of Wands shows a WWII-era poster that reminds citizens that “Waste Helps The Enemy.” This concept, though definitely abstract and retro, reinforces my belief that attempting to conquer my to-do list with a burnt-out energy and attitude will only add to my frustration, aka the enemy. Lastly, the Ace of Wands from the Housewives Tarot simply depicts a blue vintage feather duster, telling me that allowing sometime for myself will still enable me to get my to-do list under control.
